Here you will find a directory which consists of websites which provide online health insurance premium quotes, a discussion about the state of health insurance in the United States, and current news and videos about low cost health insurance. Here we also provide a health insurance book store. If you are seeking information about health insurance and are looking for low cost health insurance, the information provided here should be useful.

Currently, there are 47 million Americans who do not have health insurance. If you do not have health insurance, it is to your benefit to seek and find some sort of coverage. A catastrophic illness can be financially devastating. The cost of medical care in the United States has steadily increased, which means health insurance providers must raise their premiums. This dilemma has steadily grown worse over time. Their is no easy answers to solve this current problem.

Many health care industry experts believe that we should have a system of socialized medicine as seen in Canada, but this type of system really is not as good as some people think it is. In Canada it is not uncommon for patients to die waiting for critical surgery which can save their life. In Canada, there is a lot of waiting for necessary procedures, tests, and doctor visits.

United States Presidential candidates all have their own opinion about a resolution to this major problem. Indeed, this is a very important issue and where a candidate stands on this issue may be one of the important determinants in terms of the outcome of the 2008 presidential election. The large number of individuals which do not carry health insurance is a major problem in the United States, and it is a problem that needs to be seriously addressed by law makers.

Many young people, and sometimes not so young, are working but their company simply does not provide health insurance, and concomitantly they do not qualify for Medicaid. They simply can not afford the premiums needed for health insurance. This group of people simply fall through the cracks of the health insurance system in the United States. Many young people have a tendency to think they will not need health insurance because by and large they are healthy. But even young people can develop a catastrophic illness, or may be involved in an accident.

In the United States, the number one cause of death and injury for young people ages 5 to 27 is auto accidents. In 2003 there were 6,328,000 car accidents in the US. In that year these accidents resulted in 2.9 million injuries and 42,643 people were killed. It was not known how many of these injured people did not have health insurance, but you can determine that if 47 million are uninsured, and our current population in the United States is 303 million, that means about 16% are uninsured. If we take that 16% and apply it to the number of people who are injured in car accidents, 16% of 2.9 million injuries from car accidents is .46 million or around 460,000. So can it be said that approximately 460,000 people who were injured from a car accident did not have health insurance in 2003?

This is obviously a rough estimate because there are other factors involved. It is known that the leading cause of death and injury for young people in the United States is auto accidents, and it is known that a large number of the uninsured in the United States generally speaking are younger. The point is obvious, if you are young and you are uninsured, you are taking a major financial risk.

But here we are just talking about the number of uninsured who were injured from car accidents in the United States. There are numerous other possible catastrophic illnesses which the uninsured may have to deal with, and almost always it is unexpected. Point being, if you are young or not so young, and you currently do not have health insurance, you are much better off having some form of coverage, even if the coverage has a high deductible. You simply can not afford to be without health insurance.

In the United States, for the low income, their is the safety net of Medicaid, and for the elderly the safety net of Medicare. But if you do not qualify for these, you should provide yourself with some low premium coverage, even if the coverage is not very good. Remember, if you do not have health insurance and you need medical care, you will be responsible for your medical bills. A catastrophic illness can result in medical bills easily exceeding $100,000. So if you are seeking health insurance, the following directory should be useful. This directory consists of a list of websites which provide online quotes. Remember, even if the coverage may not be the greatest, and you may need to pay a high deductible and or a high copayment, this type of poor coverage is better then no coverage at all.

Low Cost Health Insurance - Conclusion

Health insurance, more specifically the lack of it, is a major problem in the United States. There are people in the United States which fall through the health insurance cracks. These people are mainly those who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare, and yet they can not afford to pay for health insurance. The company or business they work for does not provide their health insurance. So what should these 47 million Americans do who do not have health insurance? These people would be much better off paying a low monthly premium, and have less then adequate coverage, then not have any coverage at all. Remember that a catastrophic illness or an accident can strike any individual regardless of age. Health insurance should be considered a necessity, just like food, clothing, and shelter. It is much more desirable to have some form of coverage, then to have to pay off medical bills from a catastrophic illness the rest of your life. Hopefully, when a new United States president enters office, a real national heath care plan will at some point be implemented during his or her four years of presidency. This is something that would benefit all Americans.
